Court suspends implementation of Finance Act 2023!

-Lady Justice M Thande in her ruling said she was satisfied that Senator Omtatah’s application met a threshold for conservatory orders.-

Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah has obtained conservatory orders suspending the implementation of the Finance Act 2023.

The Act is a product of a finance Bill passed by Parliament last week and assented to the law on Monday by President William Ruto.

Lady Justice M Thande in her ruling said she was satisfied that Senator Omtatah’s application met a threshold for conservatory orders.

The Act was to start in the coming financial year.

The bill included 16% fuel tax and 1.5% tax on house levy.

Matter to be heard on July 5th, 2023.
