The County Government of Uasin Gishu has moved to mediate a water distribution dispute involving the Chelugui water project in Ainabkoi Constituency.
On Friday, CECM for Water, Environment, Natural Resources and Energy, Mr. Anthony Sitienei, and Acting Director for Water Services, Mr. Charles Tanui, visited the affected areas of Usalama, Chemusian, and Chelugui in Kaptagat and Ainabkoi-Olare Wards.
Their mission: to assess the situation firsthand and guide efforts toward a peaceful, lasting solution.
They were accompanied by local leaders, Kaptagat MCA Hon. Jonathan Ngetich and Ainabkoi-Olare MCA Hon. Gilbert Chepkong’a, who have been working closely with residents to calm tensions and find common ground.
Equitable Water Access a PrioritySpeaking on-site, Mr. Sitienei underscored the county’s unwavering commitment to fair water access under Nguzo Number 7 of the development blueprint.“Water is a shared natural resource. We are all obligated to use it responsibly.
Every household in Uasin Gishu deserves clean, reliable water, and we are determined to deliver just that,” he said.Mr. Tanui pointed out that infrastructure improvements will be necessary to ensure fair distribution between the communities.
“To meet everyone’s needs, we will upgrade the distribution lines so both Chelugui and Chemusian receive adequate and balanced water supply,” he said.
Follow-Up Meeting ScheduledTo iron out the remaining issues, a follow-up meeting has been scheduled for Monday at 9:00 AM, bringing together the two MCAs and committee leaders from both Chelugui and Chemusian.
This next step is expected to yield an amicable solution and speed up the technical work needed to restore confidence and ensure equity.
