The proposed Chavakali–Kapsabet–Eldoret Airport Road has been marked as a key priority, really, infrastructure project under the Lake Victoria Basin Development Project program, it was put together through partnership between the Government of Kenya and the World Bank, in that collaborative way you know.
This position was shared by the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) during a stakeholder engagement gathering in Vihiga County. The meeting involved National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs), plus technical teams, and there was plenty of back and forth.
Led by the KeNHA delegation, representative Rose Oloo said the road initiative sits within wider measures aimed at upgrading transport amenities and supporting economic momentum across the Lake Victoria Basin region.
She explained that KeNHA is currently running stakeholder consultations to steer preliminary planning and the next steps of implementation. The idea is to make sure that community needs and concerns are folded in, before the project moves into further phases.
“The Chavakali–Kapsabet–Eldoret Airport Road will work as a strategic mobility passage, connecting Vihiga, Nandi and Uasin Gishu counties, this will improve movement, strengthen trade and also widen access to vital services for residents and businesses along the corridor,” she said.
Stakeholder Engagement and Planning
The meeting was chaired by Deputy County Commissioner Linet Kerubo Orina, and it brought together government officers alongside technical practitioners to go through the project scope, the expected payoffs, and the implementation set-up.
People attending, reviewed issues too like community sensitisation, land acquisition procedures where necessary, and the coordination between agencies, so delivery stays smooth and everyone is aligned, early.
DCC Orina welcomed the consultations, noting that it matters a lot to involve local stakeholders early, as this helps in building stronger ownership, and it also supports smoother implementation, without drama.
She also reiterated that the national government is committed to backing development work, especially those that enhance service delivery and uplift livelihoods.
Expected Economic Impact
When it is fully completed, the road is expected to uplift regional connectivity in a meaningful manner. Travel time should reduce, and access to markets, schools, health facilities, and other essential services is expected to improve.
The project is also projected to bring in new investment prospects, and to spur socio-economic progress across Vihiga, Nandi, and Uasin Gishu counties.
Overall, this road fits within ongoing efforts by the Government of Kenya and development partners to strengthen transport networks and unlock the economic potential of the Lake Victoria Basin, through targeted infrastructure investments.
