“The DP must find peace within the government, especially now that we have a broad-based administration that has brought in some of the Azimio-affiliated parties,”

A group of Members of Parliament (MPs) from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), representing the Central Kenya and Rift Valley regions, have openly criticized Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, accusing him of engaging in divisive politics that could alienate the Mt. Kenya community.

During a meeting in Eldoret, which saw significant attendance from the Kikuyu community, including elders and religious leaders, the MPs, led by Laikipia East MP Mwangi Kiunjuri, reaffirmed their unwavering support for President William Ruto.

“We, 61 MPs from the Mt. Kenya region, stand solidly behind President Ruto,” Kiunjuri stated. He further challenged Deputy President Gachagua, daring him to leave the government if he so chooses, and asserting that the Mt. Kenya region has no intention of getting  to the opposition come 2027.

“The DP must find peace within the government, especially now that we have a broad-based administration that has brought in some of the Azimio-affiliated parties,” he added.

UDA Nominated Mp Joseph Wainaina

Similar sentiments were echoed by UDA-nominated MP Joseph Wainaina, who emphasized the importance of the Kikuyu community remaining steadfast in their support for President Ruto. “We ask our people to continue supporting President Ruto; we cannot risk being in the opposition,” Wainaina urged.

The meeting in Eldoret was also attended by Dagoretti MP John Kiarie, Limuru MP Eng. John Kiragu, Kabete MP James Githua, and Nyeri Central MP Duncan Mathenge. These MPs have pledged to travel across the country to rally support for President Ruto’s decision to include opposition parties in the government.

However, Central Kenya legislators are reportedly considering a push to have Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro replace Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, arguing that Nyoro is a more suitable candidate for the position. They warned Gachagua against creating discord within the ruling party and the current administration.

It is reported that President William Ruto recently thwarted attempts to initiate an impeachment motion against his deputy. However, the latest actions by these MPs suggest a clear desire to see Deputy President Gachagua removed from office.
