Busia Governor condoles with victims of the recent Kaburengu Accident

Busia Governor, H.E Dr Paul Otuoma Wednesday evening commiserated with parents, teachers and pupils of Busia Ebenezer Complex Academy following a grisly road accident that claimed the lives of eight learners at Kaburengu along the Eldoret – Malaba Highway on Saturday.

 

The Grade five learners; two boys and six girls were part of a team that had travelled to Eldoret on an academic tour and were on their way back to school when their lives were cut short.

 

The governor expressed his shock over the incident, describing it as a sad and unfortunate occurrence.

 

“We received this sad and shocking news while away on official duty. On behalf of the County Government of Busia please receive our condolences. I want to assure the school leadership our support during this mourning period,” said Dr Otuoma at the school in Busia town.

 

The Governor who was accompanied by the County Assembly of Busia Speaker, Hon. Eng Fred Odilo, House leadership and the executive pleaded for calmness even as he prayed that God grants the deceased eternal rest and the affected families fortitude to bear the loss.

 

Eng Odilo termed the incident as shocking and at the same time heartbreaking to affected families.

 

“It’s very sad to lose such young souls through the cruel hand of death. On behalf of the County Assembly, we pray that God gives parents and the school strength during this difficult period of grief,” he said.

 

School Director, Elizaphan Bogonko said the school has never experienced any road accident since inception 20 years ago terming the incident tragic, painful and devastating.

 

“We appreciate your visit to mourn with us. This gesture has brought warmth in the entire Ebenezer fraternity. We are looking forward to your continued support,” he said.

 

The school will hold a fundraiser at the school on Wednesday followed by a Memorial Service at Busia Vocational Training Centre on Thursday.

 

Plans for the burial of the deceased begin this Saturday as follows;

 

  1. Myrah Tasha – Saturday, July 1st July at Ugunja.

 

  1. Charity Kethi – Saturday, July 1st at Siriwo in Bumala.

 

  1. Primrose Akoth – Friday, July 7th in Kendu bay in Homabay County.

 

  1. Raymond Oketch – Saturday, July 8th at Umina in Ambira, Ugunja Sub-county.

 

  1. Creg Adrian – Saturday, July 8th at Sidindi in Ugunja Sub-county.

 

  1. Wendy Barasa – Saturday, July 8th at Ganjala in Samia Sub-county.
