FC Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hit back at La Liga following the league’s sudden reversal of its approval for the signings of Pau Victor and Dani Olmo.
In a fiery statement, Laporta accused La Liga of attacking the club’s interests and interfering at a critical moment for the team.
“We will respond back to La Liga. They want to attack our interests,” Laporta stated, expressing frustration over the league’s decision to revoke its initial approval of the transfers.
The Barça president questioned the inconsistency in La Liga’s stance, saying, “La Liga approved the signings of Pau Victor and Olmo, and now they’ve changed their minds. Why?”
Laporta further challenged La Liga’s credibility, suggesting that the governing body’s actions lacked transparency.
“Did they do a bad job in the first place when they approved the operations?” he asked, implying that the sudden reversal was either a mistake or a targeted move against the club.
The controversy comes on the same day Barcelona is set to play a crucial match, a timing Laporta found highly suspicious.
“We’re playing a key match tonight, and La Liga is communicating this morning. Very strange, no?” he remarked. He further insinuated that the league’s actions were part of a broader strategy to weaken Barcelona off the pitch. “They can’t beat us on the pitch, so they act off it,” he added.
Laporta also took direct aim at La Liga president Javier Tebas, promising a forceful response. “Trust me, my response to La Liga and Tebas will be strong,” he declared. “As president, I simply cannot allow this.”
Barcelona has long had a tense relationship with La Liga, particularly regarding Financial Fair Play regulations.
The club has faced financial constraints in recent years, leading to strict scrutiny over its signings and salary cap compliance.
This latest dispute only deepens the ongoing rift between Barcelona’s leadership and La Liga’s governing body.
As the situation unfolds, Barça fans and football analysts will be closely watching how the club navigates this latest conflict.
With Laporta vowing to defend Barcelona’s interests, the coming days could see a heated exchange between the club and La Liga authorities.
For now, the controversy casts a shadow over the team’s preparations for their crucial fixture, adding yet another layer of tension to an already challenging season.
