Over 8,000 people from the Indian community drawn from Kenya, United Kingdom, India, Australia and other countries Sunday celebrated the inauguration of the Rupaben Zaverchand Oshwal Center in Eldoret.
Gracing the Event Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii who was accompanied by the First Lady, appreciated the immense contribution of the Indian Community in the economic development of Eldoret town since the 1890’s.
“Many of us may not be aware of the beautiful journey that has led us to this point. The Indian community arrived in East Africa as early as 1890, brought here by the British to build the railway line from Mombasa to various towns. Over time, they settled all across Kenya, working tirelessly and opening small businesses. Through sheer hard work, dedication, and the sponsorship of their relatives from India, they progressed financially” He Noted

The Shah community, in particular, embraced a business-oriented mindset and opened textile shops in different towns. With over a century of settlement in Kenya, they have flourished immensely, considering this country their home. From small shops, commonly known as “Dukas,” they expanded into industries, becoming major employers and contributors to the progress of our beloved town of Eldoret.He added
Among the families that have played a pivotal role in the development of Eldoret town that is on its path to become a city are, the Vaghji Nangpar Family, the Rupaben Zaverchand Family, and the Gosrani Family.
The Visa Oshwal Community of Eldoret has been singled out for consistently providing employment opportunities to over 20,000 youth across various sectors.
