Liverpool’s number one goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, is set for a spell on the sidelines after sustaining an injury, with manager Arne Slot expressing optimism about his return but remaining cautious about the timeline.

Speaking to the media, Slot said, “I expect him to be back before Christmas, yes… but you never know. It is always difficult to know how an injury will go in the first stages, so we can answer that question better in two or three weeks.”

The Brazilian shot-stopper’s absence comes as a major blow to Liverpool, with the Premier League season in full swing and crucial fixtures on the horizon.

Alisson has been a vital part of the Reds’ success over the past few seasons, consistently delivering top performances between the posts.

Alisson’s reliability as Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper is evident in his role in helping the club win multiple trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020. His absence raises concerns about the team’s defensive stability.

In recent years, Liverpool has struggled when forced to rotate key players due to injuries, as seen in the 2020-21 season, when a spate of defensive injuries disrupted their title challenge.

Slot’s comments highlight the unpredictability of injuries in their early stages, with uncertainty lingering over whether Alisson will recover as swiftly as hoped.

Liverpool fans will be anxiously awaiting further updates, especially as the club approaches the busy holiday period, when the Premier League schedule becomes particularly congested.

In the meantime, backup goalkeeper Caoimhín Kelleher will likely be called upon to fill Alisson’s boots.

Kelleher, while highly regarded, lacks the same level of experience as the Brazilian and will face significant pressure in the coming weeks.

Liverpool’s medical staff will be closely monitoring Alisson’s recovery, hoping to avoid setbacks that could extend his absence into the new year.

As Liverpool aims to stay competitive in both the Premier League and European competitions, Alisson’s timely return could prove crucial to their season’s success.
