Diana Mwango, 26 years old, was born and raised in Migori County. She earns her income by traveling around the globe, a lifestyle she has embraced for the past four years.

Diana embarked on this journey in 2016 while studying a Teaching course at Moi University in Eldoret. “I began traveling shortly after enrolling at Moi University. During school holidays, I explored various East African countries, with Uganda being the first on my itinerary. Later, I ventured to West African countries such as Senegal and Ghana, and even made my way to southern African countries like Zimbabwe. All while still pursuing my teaching course at university,” Diana shared.

She credits her entry into the world of travel to her brother, Iam Maarwa, an international travel vlogger, blogger, and actor. “My brother, being a prominent figure in Kenya, introduced me to this lifestyle. When he asked me what I desired, I requested him to assist me in opening an M-Pesa shop,” Diana explained. Coming from a rural background with limited exposure, Diana felt inclined to pursue a more conventional venture like a shop.

“I had no prior exposure, having been born and raised in the village. It wasn’t until my brother’s departure from the country that I ventured to Nairobi for the first time. He looked at me and said, ‘You will do what I’m doing,'” Diana recounted. Despite her initial reservations, she accepted her brother’s offer.

Equipped with a laptop and camera provided by her brother, Diana embarked on her journey into content creation. “Although initially shy and unfamiliar with technology, I embraced the challenge. My brother entrusted me with the task of shooting and editing videos for posting,” she recalled. Through YouTube tutorials, Diana taught herself how to navigate editing software and operate a computer.

Her journey wasn’t without setbacks. “The first video I posted on social media was criticized by my brother, prompting me to delete it. Instead of being disheartened, I saw it as a learning opportunity,” Diana said.

Regarding her revenue stream, Diana explained, “When I travel, I document my experiences and upload videos to my YouTube channel, which I established four years ago. Advertisers pay YouTube to showcase their products during my videos, generating revenue for me.” She highlighted Jamaica as a standout destination, citing a particularly popular video she filmed there.

Reflecting on her travels, Diana expressed fondness for Jamaica. “The warm reception from the people and the natural beauty of the country left a lasting impression on me,” she shared.

Her advice to aspiring content creators is simple: “Stay focused on your passion and accept that not everyone will appreciate your work. Do it for those who support you, and ignore those who don’t,” Diana concluded.
