The Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, under the leadership of Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, is spearheading significant efforts to address pollution and environmental degradation through the ongoing Climate WorX program.
This initiative is focused on cleaning up polluted areas while also educating the public on proper waste management.
The Ministry has already made significant progress in various areas, including Deep Sea Village along the Kitusuru River and Mashagusha Stream in Waruku, Kileleshwa.
These regions have been heavily impacted by waste accumulation, which not only poses serious environmental risks but also affects local communities.
Through the Climate WorX program, waste is being removed from both the water bodies and surrounding land, transforming these areas and making them safer and cleaner.
Aden Duale emphasized the importance of these efforts during a press briefing.
“Our mission is not only to clean up these areas but also to restore the land so that it can be used again. We must take immediate action to reverse the damage caused by years of pollution,” he said.
This approach underscores the Ministry’s commitment to reclaiming land and ensuring that polluted areas can be returned to productive use.
In addition to the physical clean-up efforts, the Ministry is leading a nationwide sensitization campaign aimed at educating communities on the importance of proper waste management.
This campaign involves teaching individuals and households about the need to reduce, reuse, and recycle waste materials, as well as how to properly dispose of waste to prevent future pollution.
Duale stressed that community involvement is key to ensuring the long-term success of these environmental initiatives.
The Ministry is also collaborating with the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to enforce environmental protection policies.
This includes cracking down on illegal dumping, industrial pollution, and other forms of environmental degradation that have plagued Kenya’s urban and rural areas.
Through the Climate WorX program, the government hopes to create lasting change by addressing pollution at both a community and policy level.
With continued efforts, the Ministry aims to set a new standard for environmental care across the country.
