In an exciting turn of events, the Council of Governors and Senate members temporarily set aside their political roles to display their football prowess at the Kipchoge Keino Classic in Uasin Gishu County on Tuesday.
Serving as the curtain-raiser for the 8th Devolution Conference, the talented senators competed against the governors in a friendly football match.
The conference is slated to take place at The Eldoret Sports Club from August 15th to the 19th.
The Senate team triumphed over the County heads, defeating the governors by a decisive 3-0 margin.
The Senate took an early lead, securing two goals within the initial stages of the first half, concluding the half with a 2-0 lead.
Maintaining their dominance in the second half, they added a third goal to their tally, rounding off a convincing 3-0 win.
The Governors’ attempts to penetrate the Senate’s defence bore no fruit, with their efforts to launch robust attacks and score goals proving unsuccessful.
Following the conclusion of the friendly, the politicians participated in a penalty shootout, each side selecting five players to execute the penalty kicks.
Despite the informal nature of the match, the Senate upheld their commanding victory, ending the day with a 3-0 win over their counterparts.
The governors squandered several clear opportunities, with some losing focus and shooting in errant directions.
Earlier in the day, Athletics events featuring various track events took place.
Many talented residents of the Rift Valley region, particularly the youth, participated.
Closing the Athletics chapter, several political leaders also took part in various races, ranging from 100m to 400m.
This showcase of sporting talent and spirit set a vibrant tone for the ongoing 8th Devolution Conference.
