President William Ruto has sent his heartfelt condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the sudden death of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale.
In a condolence message shared on Saturday, August 16th 2026, President Ruto said he and First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto were deeply saddened by the passing of Gloria, describing her death as a painful loss to the Khalwale family.
“Mama Rachel and I extend our heartfelt condolences to Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale following the passing of his beloved wife, Gloria Sekeiyan. We stand with Senator Khalwale and his family in this moment of immense grief,” President Ruto said in a statement.
“The loss of a spouse, companion and mother leaves a deep void, and we pray that God grants the family strength, comfort and peace as they mourn and cherish her memory. May Gloria’s soul rest in eternal peace,” the President added.

The Kakamega Senator, known across the country as the ‘Bullfighter’ for his political style and passion for bullfighting culture, announced the tragic news himself on his verified Meta account on Saturday morning.
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale wrote in an emotional post that has since drawn an outpouring of condolences from leaders across the political divide.
Gloria was the mother of eight children: Engineer Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.
The news has shocked the political fraternity, with leaders from both Kenya Kwanza and Azimio la Umoja sending messages of comfort to the family.
Gloria was known as a quiet, supportive pillar behind the veteran politician, who has served as Kakamega Senator and previously as Ikolomani MP. She rarely appeared in public political events, choosing to focus on family and community work in Kakamega.
Senator Khalwale, who was elected on a UDA ticket in the 2022 general election, has not yet announced burial arrangements, with family sources indicating that the body has been moved to a mortuary in Kakamega as the family makes plans.
Kenyans on social media have flooded Senator Khalwale’s timeline with messages of encouragement, quoting his own past words of resilience during difficult moments.
Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days as leaders continue to troop to his homes in Kakamega and Nairobi to condole with the family.
