A political convoy accompanying the ODM-linked Linda Mwananchi faction came under attack Friday evening in Kisii County after a group of suspected goons ambushed supporters traveling to a rally in Keroka.

David Maraga, who is associated with the United Green Movement Party, was among those caught up in the incident. His vehicle was damaged during the attack, but he escaped without injury.

The confrontation occurred at Keumbu Market along the Kisii-Keroka Road, where a group of youths reportedly blocked the convoy before pelting vehicles with stones and attacking several of them with clubs.

The convoy had departed Kisii town and was expected to address supporters in Keumbu before proceeding to a political rally in Keroka.

Videos circulating on social media showed chaotic scenes as youths hurled stones at passing vehicles and warned motorists and supporters against using the road.

Police officers responded to the scene but were unable to prevent the violence after the confrontation had escalated.

The incident has renewed concerns over politically related violence ahead of the 2027 General Election, with members of the public condemning the use of armed groups to disrupt political activities.

Musa Omari said police had launched investigations to establish the circumstances surrounding the attack and identify those responsible.

Leaders allied to the Linda Mwananchi faction condemned the violence and called on security agencies to arrest both the perpetrators and anyone suspected of planning, financing or orchestrating the attack.

They said acts of political intimidation threaten democratic participation and urged authorities to ensure all political groups can campaign freely and peacefully.

The latest incident comes amid heightened political activity across the country as parties intensify grassroots mobilization and public rallies ahead of next year’s General Election.
