Former Chief Justice David Maraga on Thursday hosted Murang’a Governor Irungu Kang’ata and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi in Kisii ahead of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s public engagement rallies scheduled for Kisii and Nyamira counties on Friday.
Maraga said the meeting formed part of ongoing consultations aimed at bringing together leaders committed to constitutional governance, the rule of law and economic reforms.
“I was pleased to host Governor Kangata and Senator Osotsi in Kisii ahead of the Linda Mwananchi events in Kisii and Nyamira tomorrow. All leaders who believe in the liberation, Ukombozi, of Kenya must come together to RESET the country to Constitutionalism, Rule of Law and Economic Opportunity for all,” Maraga said in a post on his social media platforms.
The leaders are expected to participate in a series of public forums across the two counties, with planned stops at Monarch Mosocho, Keumbu and Keroka before culminating in a major rally in Kisii town, where they are expected to address residents.
The engagements are part of the Linda Mwananchi movement’s nationwide public outreach campaign, which seeks to engage citizens on governance, constitutionalism and economic issues.
Thursday’s meeting comes as Maraga continues to hold consultations with political leaders from different parties and formations, fueling speculation about efforts to build a broader opposition alliance ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
Kang’ata recently announced that he had joined the Linda Mwananchi movement, becoming one of several political leaders who have publicly aligned themselves with the platform.
Maraga, who leads the United Green Movement, has also strengthened ties with leaders associated with the movement, further signaling growing political cooperation among opposition figures.
The Kisii meeting follows another high-profile consultation last month between Maraga and Jubilee Deputy Party Leader Fred Matiang’i. At the time, Maraga described their discussions as part of wider efforts to unite opposition leaders around a shared political agenda.
“Fred Matiang’i and I held talks as part of ongoing consultations with other opposition leaders to enhance opposition unity with the hope of building a broad coalition committed to transforming Kenya,” Maraga said after that meeting.
Those consultations have coincided with other gatherings involving leaders linked to the Linda Mwananchi movement.
On June 16, Maraga convened a national dialogue at Ufungamano House in Nairobi that brought together several opposition leaders, including Saboti MP Caleb Amisi, Suba South MP Caroli Omondi and Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, who have all been active participants in the Linda Mwananchi campaign.
The latest consultations underscore continued efforts by Maraga and allied leaders to consolidate support around a common political platform as discussions on opposition unity gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle.
