More than 200 farmers from across Nakuru County have received specialized training in climate-smart agriculture (CSA), equipping them with practical skills to adapt to climate change while improving farm productivity and sustainable land management.

The farmers, drawn from all 11 sub-counties, participated in an intensive training program focused on innovative agricultural technologies and practices designed to strengthen resilience against increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.

The training covered key areas such as conservation agriculture, soil and water conservation, water harvesting techniques, drip irrigation technology, and effective farm management practices. Participants were also introduced to the use of quality inorganic and organic fertilizers, hybrid seeds, drought-tolerant crop varieties, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies to enhance yields while minimizing environmental impact.

The initiative was held at the Agricultural Society Grounds and organized by the County Government of Nakuru in collaboration with the Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK), industry players, and development partners.

County officials noted that empowering farmers with climate-smart solutions is critical in safeguarding food security and ensuring sustainable agricultural production in the face of changing climatic conditions. Farmers who attended the training expressed optimism that the new knowledge and technologies would help them improve productivity, conserve resources, and better withstand climate-related challenges.

The program underscores Nakuru County’s commitment to promoting sustainable agriculture and supporting farmers with practical solutions that enhance resilience, productivity, and long-term environmental conservation.
