Turkana Urban Water and Sanitation Company (TUWASCO) has officially welcomed Kelly Komi Lemuya as its new Managing Director following a formal handover ceremony marking the transition of leadership at the utility firm.

The appointment has been hailed as a major step forward in the company’s drive to enhance institutional capacity and ensure the effective delivery of water services in Lodwar Municipality and its environs.

Speaking at the handover ceremony, TUWASCO Board Chairperson Phillip Aemun described the process of having a substantive Managing Director as a success for the utility firm.

“We are pleased that one of the Board’s key priorities has been realized. The next step is to enhance institutionally and gain licenses needed to take TUWASCO to its full capacity,” stated Aemun.

The handover comes amid TUWASCO’s quest to improve operational efficiency, expand its service coverage and enhance overall performance in water and sanitation management.

Outgoing Acting Managing Director Aaron Kokuro took stock of some of the milestones achieved during his tenure noting that the firm exceeded its target for revenue collection for the last month.

“We collected revenue of Sh5 million, exceeding our target which proves how far we have gone in bettering our revenue collection. It is now the new team’s duty to work towards similar growth,” Kokuro noted.

He urged the new management team to focus on revenue generation while also seeking to reduce non-revenue water as this remains a significant challenge for the firm.

“We need to continue on our growth in revenue generation while reducing non-revenue water which is the most challenging aspect of our work,” stated Kokuro.

Lemuya, in his response speech thanked the stakeholders for the trust they have put in him and promised to capitalize on the progress the firm has made over the past years.

“I look forward to working with the Board, the employees and other stakeholders to ensure effective and reliable delivery of water services to residents,” he said.

He also underscored the importance of teamwork, accountability, and innovation in promoting the organization’s mandate and improving the availability of affordable and quality water and sanitation services in Lodwar Municipality.

The new Managing Director officially begins his tenure at a time when TUWASCO is working towards operational expansion, improved performance and meeting demand from residents for the scarce service in Turkana County.
