Irungu Kang’ata on Wednesday led a public participation forum in Murang’a East Sub-County, outlining key county development programmes aimed at improving service delivery, healthcare, and agricultural productivity.

The forum at Ihura Stadium brought together farmers traders’ youth and local residents to provide an opportunity for wananchi to participate in county development priorities and governance discussions.

Governor Kang’ata used the meeting to inform residents about the MyMurang’a App, the Kang’atacare health programme, county budget planning, and agricultural initiatives, particularly avocado farming as a major economic activity in the region.

He said the public participation exercise reflects the county government’s commitment to inclusive governance and citizen involvement in decision-making.

“The MyMurang’a App is helping wananchi access services faster, receive important information and track county programmes without unnecessary delays. Technology is helping us bring services closer to the people,” Kang’ata said.

The governor explained that the Kang’atacare programme operates on an annual cycle to enhance operational efficiency while keeping precise records of its beneficiaries.

“The renewal process helps us refresh the system because some members relocate abroad while others unfortunately pass on. It is important to maintain an updated database so the programme continues serving residents effectively,” he said.

Farmers at the forum participated in training programs conducted in collaboration with to enhance their abilities in avocado production and export market access.

Kang’ata said the county government is positioning avocado farming as a sustainable export-driven venture that will increase household incomes and promote local economic development.

“Our goal is to move toward a sustainable export-driven model that puts more money directly into the pockets of our hardworking farmers. By mastering global standards, we are securing the economic future of our families and community for generations to come,” he said.

Stephen Munania urged farmers to adopt modern farming methods and comply with international quality standards to remain competitive globally.

“Avocado farming has become one of the strongest economic pillars in Murang’a. Through training, partnerships and access to quality seedlings, we are empowering farmers to earn more and compete globally,” Munania said.

The county government provided avocado seedlings to farmers during the event to promote higher production levels and assist farmers who focus on export farming.

The forum participants from the local community expressed their approval of the program because they believe that the educational resources and assistance will boost farmer productivity and their ability to sell crops in the market.
