The County Government of Nandi has officially commissioned the Tilalwa Multipurpose Cooperative Society milk collection and cooling centre in Chemundu Kapng’etuny Ward, describing it as a key investment aimed at strengthening the dairy value chain at the grassroots level.

The facility is expected to provide farmers with a reliable milk aggregation point, improve handling practices, and ensure compliance with quality standards required for access to competitive markets.

In a statement during the commissioning, the county said it has rolled out similar milk collection and cooling centres across several wards as part of ongoing efforts to support dairy farmers. It further noted that, in collaboration with the national government and cooperative societies, it is facilitating essential infrastructure such as electricity connectivity to support efficient operation of milk cooling equipment.

“This facility will serve as a reliable aggregation point for farmers, ensuring improved milk handling and adherence to quality standards required for competitive markets,” the county said.

The project is also expected to strengthen supply chains feeding into the Nandi Dairy Cooperative Union milk processing plant in Kabiyet, by increasing both the volume and quality of milk delivered.

Officials noted that improved collection systems will help the processing plant operate at optimal capacity while boosting earnings for farmers across the region.

The event was graced by Jane Imbunya, who joined local leaders and cooperative stakeholders in highlighting the importance of investing in agricultural value chains to support rural livelihoods.
