Makueni CC Khalif Abdullahi has asked newly recruited interns to uphold the qualities of professionalism, discipline, and commitment as they begin their one-year placement in various government projects across the county.

Speaking during the induction of 108 interns deployed through the State Department of Housing and Development, Abdullahi reminded the cohort that public service requires integrity and devotion. He asked them to work with both county and national government officers and respect the chain of command for effective service delivery.

“I want you to work in close collaboration with County and National government officers, respect the chain of command, keep discipline, and put service delivery at the fore of your work. This opportunity is not just a placement; it is a calling to serve and rise above mediocrity,” Abdullahi said.

He emphasized that this is the time when the young professional foundation in their careers should be well laid out, and simultaneously, they develop the community. Abdullahi added that the skills gained within the training, from ethical conduct to safety standards, would shape their future.

“It is an invitation to build a legacy you will be proud of for years to come. You are entering the public service at a time when professionalism, innovation, and integrity are needed more than ever. Our communities are looking up to you for solutions to the challenges they face,” he said.

The one-day induction brought together interns from a diverse academic background that included mechanical and electrical engineering, physical planning, community development, economics, quantity surveying, ICT, journalism, among other technical areas of specializations. Through the program, they will understand government procedures better for proper assimilation into their roles.
