The Uasin Gishu Journalists Association (UJA) and the Eldoret Media Hub have earned praise from the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) for making remarkable progress in strengthening journalism practice, nurturing new media talent, and promoting professional standards in the region.
This came during an assessment visit by the MCK Human Resource Department on October 14, 2025, to evaluate the Hub’s performance one year and two months after it received facility support from the Council.
Led by Josphat Kibaara, the Assistant Director of Human Resource and Administration at the MCK, the delegation noted that the Hub has become a model example of how devolved media facilities can foster professionalism, innovation, and collaboration among journalists.
“We are impressed by the level of organization, teamwork, and productivity witnessed at the Eldoret Media Hub. The space has evolved into a vibrant center that supports not only journalists but also communication students and upcoming media practitioners,” said Mr. Kibaara.
The visiting team — which also included Lilian Ochieng, Dinnah Ondari, and Daisy Chepkemoi — lauded the Hub’s management for effectively utilizing the support provided by MCK to create a conducive and functional media environment.
“The Hub has made commendable strides, particularly through its active use of the studio recording facility, mentorship programs, and collaborative content creation. These initiatives align well with MCK’s mission to strengthen ethical and professional journalism across Kenya,” said Lilian Ochieng of the MCK Human Resource Department.
Dinnah Ondari, Manager, Media Monitoring and Research, emphasized the importance of maintaining the Hub’s operational standards and expanding its mentorship capacity to reach more students and community journalists.

“What we’ve seen in Eldoret reflects the potential of regional media hubs when properly managed. We encourage continued mentorship and capacity building for students and young professionals to ensure journalism in Kenya remains credible and impactful,” she noted.
On her part, Daisy Chepkemoi, commended the Hub’s role in promoting collaboration among local journalists.
“This facility has become a unifying space for journalists to exchange ideas, produce quality content, and uphold professionalism in their work,” Chepkemoi said.
The Hub’s leadership, led by Chairperson James Gitaka, expressed appreciation for the continued support from MCK, noting that the partnership has been instrumental in empowering local journalists and students.
“The visit reaffirmed our shared vision for ethical, impactful, and innovative journalism. We are proud of what we’ve achieved and are committed to expanding mentorship programs, studio productions, and training opportunities,” said Mr. Gitaka.
