Nandi County Women Representative Cynthia Muge called on the youth across Kenya to come out and assume leadership, pushing the message that age should not hinder one from realizing his or her full potential in terms of making society better.

Speaking over the weekend in a message to her people, Muge, one of the youngest MPs in the National Assembly, dwelled on that, stating that leadership is not quantified by the number of years one has lived, but by vision, humility, and the spirit of service.

Not the age that matters but the vision, humility, and willingness to serve, she stated. “A 25-year-old with vision can accomplish what a 45-year-old boss cannot. This is what it means that it is not the age that matters. Leadership is a matter of vision, humility, and the willingness to serve,” she expounded.

Muge continued to drive home the distinction between being a leader and being a boss, stating that although bosses order people around, leaders inspire and lead people towards common objectives. “Strive to be the type of person people want to follow freely, not because they have no choice. Don’t let your age discourage you. Step up and claim your seat in leadership,” she challenged the young people.

Her statement comes at a moment Kenya is undergoing an increasing youth involvement in politics, governance, and community service. More youths are breaking barriers, becoming involved in civic activities, entrepreneurship, and community activism.

Muge’s own political rise continues to be a powerful inspiration. She originally made history upon being elected as a Member of County Assembly (MCA) at 24 years old, a feat that brought national attention to the future for youthful leaders. Her later election as a Woman Representative further cemented her reputation as a trailblazer of youth empowerment.

With her speaking out, Muge aims to inspire the younger generation not just to believe in themselves but also to redefine what it means to be a leader from authority to service. Her message is that much more compelling with the growing call for inclusivity and hearing the voices of the youth in decision-making.
