Busia Governor H.E Dr. Paul Nyongesa Otuoma is keen on addressing perennial water shortage that is ailing the county.
Dr. Otuoma stated that Busia County has many water bodies and therefore it should not be experiencing constant water shortages.
“Water shortage is a recurring problem that needs to be addressed once and for all. Considering the water bodies we have, we should not be having water challenges in the county. We should consider alternative pumping systems like gravity, solar and hybrid systems to address these challenges,” he said.
He stated this on Wednesday when he held a consultative meeting with a team from Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency (LVNWWDA) which was led by the agency Chairman, Mr. Julius Wasike Bakasa, HSC.
Dr. Otuoma appealled to LVNWWDA to consider investing more in Busia County due to its many water related challenges.

The acting LVNWWDA CEO, CPA Anthony Kisaka stated that the agency will partner with the county to find a solution to non-revenue water which is due to non paying clients and water spillage. The partnership will also seek to reduce pumping costs through solar and gravity systems.
In the meeting, deliberations were also made on expansion of Mundika Water Supply to make it solar hybrid in order to increase its pumping capacity.
Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency rehabilitated and expanded the water supplies for Nambale and Busia towns, under the Kenya Water Sanitation and Development Programme in a project that was commonly referred to as the Nzoia Cluster Phase II lot II.
Also present in the meeting was the County Executive Committee Member for Finance Ms Topista Wanyama, Governor’s Economic Advisor Ms Melissa Namangale, acting Chief of Staff Elijah Mwaro and the acting Chief Officer for Water Irrigation Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change Mr Dennis Chirande.
