Uasin Gishu County has made road infrastructure a key priority in its 2025/2026 budget by allocating Ksh. 2.5 billion to improve accessibility to grassroots areas.

This strategic move is aimed at enhancing connectivity and supporting economic activities, particularly in rural parts of the county.

While presenting the budget to the County Assembly, the County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for Finance, Micah Rokony, said the county government has decided to shift focus toward roads after dedicating much of the previous two financial years to the health and water sectors.

Rokony noted that efficient road networks are essential for service delivery, economic development, and accessibility to public facilities.

Over the past 13 years, Uasin Gishu County has struggled to meet its own-source revenue targets, a challenge that has significantly impacted the implementation of its budget.

According to Rokony, this shortfall has constrained the county’s ability to fully fund development projects and meet rising public demands.

The county plans to implement more effective revenue collection measures to boost local income and reduce reliance on national transfers.

Despite the increased focus on roads, the health sector continues to receive significant funding. In the 2025/26 budget, the county has allocated Ksh. 2.4 billion to health.

Part of this amount includes Ksh. 60 million earmarked for the construction of the Moiben Sub-County Hospital, which is expected to ease congestion in existing facilities and improve access to quality healthcare in the region.

An additional Ksh. 280 million has been set aside for the purchase of essential medical supplies to ensure consistent service delivery in health centers and hospitals across the county.

The budget reflects a balanced approach to development, aiming to address key infrastructure challenges while continuing to strengthen the healthcare system.

Uasin Gishu County’s 2025/26 financial plan signals a commitment to improving residents’ quality of life through better roads, enhanced medical services, and a renewed focus on fiscal discipline and revenue generation.
