Manchester United’s Chief Executive Omar Berrada remains steadfast in his ambition to secure the Premier League and Women’s Super League (WSL) titles by 2028, coinciding with the club’s 150th anniversary, despite a torrid season for the men’s team under manager Ruben Amorim.
The 20-time English champions endured their worst top-flight campaign since their 1973/74 relegation, finishing 15th, a staggering 42 points behind champions Liverpool.
The Red Devils also suffered a Europa League final defeat to Tottenham, ruling out European football next season. Meanwhile, United’s women’s team finished third in the WSL, 16 points adrift of six-time consecutive champions Chelsea, who also defeated them in the FA Cup final.
Berrada, formerly Manchester City’s Chief Football Operations Officer, unveiled his “Project 150” vision in September 2024, targeting dual title success by 2028.
In an interview with the United We Stand fanzine, set for publication on Wednesday, he acknowledged the scale of the challenge but remained optimistic.
“It’s about establishing targets within a timeframe to focus our efforts,” Berrada said. “We finished 15th, and it seems impossible, but why not aim for it? Why not do everything in our power?”
United, founded as Newton Heath in 1878, have not claimed the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson’s final season in 2012/13. Berrada believes the club can leverage two or three transfer windows to build a squad capable of challenging for the title. “I firmly believe we can do it,” he asserted.
The women’s team faces a formidable task to dethrone Chelsea, who have dominated the WSL. Despite the gap, Berrada’s confidence extends to both teams, emphasizing a unified push toward the 2028 milestone.
