Homa Bay Gears Up to Make History with 62nd Madaraka Day Celebrations

Preparations for the 62nd Madaraka Day celebrations scheduled for Sunday, June 1st 2025, are in full swing in Homa Bay County.
Madaraka Day is celebrated annually to honour Kenyans’ attainment of self-rule.
The event will be held at Raila Odinga stadium and is themed” blue economy and maritime affairs”, highlighting Kenya’s focus on harnessing aquatic resources for sustainable development.
Gladys Wanga governor of Homa Bay County, has expressed her gratitude for hosting the upcoming event as it will help them grow in the economic sector.
Raymond Omollo, chair of the National celebrations steering committee, expressed confidence that the celebrations will be a success.
” Our primary goal is to deliver a memorable Madaraka Day celebration that honours our freedom fighters while showcasing our unity and developments as a nation,” he said.
For the first time since independence, this county will host these national celebrations, a move that the governor has described as a blessing from the devolved system of government.
