The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) in the Northrift is investigating a governor for allegedly embezzling Ksh 1 billion in public funds.

The EACC has not yet released any details about the investigation, but it is expected that the governor will be called in for questioning in the near future. If the allegations are proven to be true, the governor could face serious consequences, including imprisonment.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission’s (EACC) investigation into 21 sitting and former governors over corruption and economic crimes involving tens of billions of public funds is a welcome development. Corruption undermines economic development, fuels inequality, and erodes trust in government.

The EACC has also submitted files to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) recommending prosecution of Kakamega Governor Fernades Barasa and former Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu over corruption charges.

The EACC’s work is essential to ensuring that public funds are used for their intended purposes and that those who abuse their power are held accountable.
