14 Dead, 30 Injured in Tragic Crash at Malaha Junction on Kitale–Webuye Highway

A severe road accident at Malaha Junction on the Kitale–Webuye highway in Bungoma County resulted in 14 deaths and 30 people sustaining injuries.
Police and eyewitnesses reported that at 2 a.m. On Tuesday a trailer truck lost control while driving from Kitale to Webuye. The vehicle lost control and crashed into several vehicles and motorcycles that were parked along the street.
Boda boda operators who were near the highway at that time also became part of the accident.
Police reports indicate that two motorcycles crashed head-on which caused bystanders to gather at the accident site. The trailer crashed into the crowd which resulted in multiple fatalities and injuries.
Police authorities believe that the trailer driver escaped from the accident site immediately after the vehicle crashed.
Webuye East Sub-County Police Commander Rosemary Odeke confirmed the incident, noting that investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances of the accident and verify the final number of casualties.
Odeke asked drivers to drive safely during nighttime hours while police officers collect evidence about the accident which caused the deaths.
The injured patients received medical care at Webuye County Hospital while the deceased bodies were transported to the hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem procedures.
