Afro-pop powerhouse Yemi Alade has released her vibrant new single “Shawa Shawa” (Ashawo), an upbeat anthem now streaming across all major platforms via Effyzzie Music. The track, written by Alade and produced by Yasso—the hitmaker behind her GRAMMY-nominated single “Tomorrow”—is already gaining traction on social media for its infectious rhythm and culturally rich storytelling.
“Shawa Shawa” dives into themes of morality, cultural perceptions and everyday lived experiences. With its playful yet reflective tone, the song blends entertainment with subtle social commentary, embodying Alade’s ability to fuse joy, dance and meaning into a single record.
Speaking on the inspiration behind the track, Yemi Alade said:
“Life happens all around us every day and this song merely touches on the oldest profession in the world. ‘Shawa Shawa’ takes you back to the basics of celebrating the roots of African culture. Many stories have been told through this medium, and that was exactly my goal when I wrote this song.”
Infused with Afrobeats and Calypso influences, the song carries the timeless flavour of Highlife while showcasing Alade’s signature vocal prowess. Born from light-hearted studio sessions, “Shawa Shawa” transforms everyday narratives into witty, relatable lyrics—delivering humour, depth and cultural authenticity without crossing into explicit territory.
The release further highlights Alade’s ongoing artistic evolution and her commitment to upholding African musical heritage. As one of the continent’s most influential artists, the singer continues to cement her legacy as an Afro-pop icon, cultural storyteller and global performer.
Fans can now stream “Shawa Shawa” on all major music platforms.
