Employees of Uasin Gishu County staged a protest yesterday, demanding the termination of Trident Insurance, citing its substandard services.
The protest was led by Isaac Tallam, the chairman of the county workers’ union, who presented their petition to the County Assembly. “We have been provided with an insurance cover that is useless and has failed to offer adequate services,” Tallam said, criticizing Trident Insurance.
The workers expressed frustration, accusing the firm of being unaccommodating and ineffective in addressing their healthcare needs. “Hospital employees are unable to access treatment,” Tallam emphasized. One patient, whose name was withheld, shared that she has been suffering from depression after being diagnosed with a spinal condition and has yet to receive any treatment.
With over 4,000 employees participating in the protest, they voiced their disappointment in county leadership, accusing officials of neglecting their responsibilities. “We are saddened by the turn of events,” one worker remarked, adding that the union has issued a seven-day ultimatum for action.
Rebecca Magut , the Chair of the Health Committee at the Assembly, expressed concerns about Trident Insurance. “Trident is just a broker; it’s not capable of providing the necessary insurance coverage for the workers,” she said.
Meanwhile, County Assembly Speaker Phillip Muigei acknowledged receipt of the petition. “I will table the petition at the Uasin Gishu County Assembly and call all union members to discuss the issues raised,” he assured.
