Uasin Gishu County is stepping up its healthcare efforts in preparation for a major countywide immunization campaign set to begin on June 13, 2025.

The campaign, part of a national initiative across all 47 counties, aims to strengthen disease prevention and ensure broad vaccine coverage among children.

Under the leadership of Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii Chelilim, the county is delivering on its promise of accessible and dignified healthcare, a key component of the “Nguzo Kumi” manifesto.

The immunization drive reflects the county’s commitment to safeguarding public health and preventing outbreaks of vaccine-preventable diseases.

In a preparatory move, the Kapseret Sub-County Health Management Team—also serving as the Sub-County Supplemental Immunization Activity (SIA) task force—held a sensitization meeting with National Government Administrative Officers on Wednesday.

The meeting was led by Dr. Elvis Chirchir, who emphasized the importance of collaboration between county and national officials.

“This campaign underscores our dedication to strengthening public health systems and protecting the next generation,” said Dr. Chirchir. “Through collaboration with national and local leadership, we aim to achieve high coverage and prevent disease outbreaks.”

The week-long campaign will focus on administering two essential vaccines: the Measles-Rubella (MR) vaccine for children aged 5 to 50 months, and a newly introduced typhoid vaccine targeting children aged 5 to 15 years.

The introduction of the typhoid vaccine is a significant step in expanding the Kenya Expanded Programme on Immunization (KEPI), highlighting the government’s growing focus on comprehensive child healthcare.

Governor Bii’s administration has consistently prioritized health as a pillar of development, investing in infrastructure, personnel, and community outreach. The upcoming immunization campaign is seen as a continuation of these efforts to ensure that no child is left behind in accessing essential health services.

Parents and guardians across Uasin Gishu are urged to support the campaign by presenting their children for vaccination and cooperating with health officials. The county’s health teams are expected to mobilize extensively to reach both urban and remote communities.
