Cosmas Kerich, the Acting  Director of Enforcement at the Uasin Gishu County Government will be detained  for four days at the Eldoret GK remand prison  after he pleaded not  guilty  to charges  of  threatening to kill a magistrate.

Kerich who appeared before senior  Principal Magistrate  Christine Menya was  denied  bail  until Friday this week when the  court  will decide on his bail application.

Kerich is said  to have threatened Eldoret Senior Resident magistrate  Emilly Kigen  at the County Headquarters   last year, after  she witnessed the suspect Physically assaulting a hawker at the Holding cells within the Court Premises .

According to the charge sheet Kerich is quoted to have uttered the following words  on 17th October 2022 at the Eldoret Municipal court number six “wewe pia mwanamke toka hapa ama pia tutakuua”

The Director of  Public Prosecution directed Kerich be  arraigned in Court after establishing availability of enough evidence against  the Suspect.

The matter was expedited following an outcry by a section of Uasin Gishu County Legislators led by Huruma Ward  Mca Kimani Wanjohi and Uasin Gishu County Assembly  Leader of  Minority Hon Francis Muya who have expressed their faith in the Court  process towards  ensuring justice prevails  not  only  for the  said  magistrate but for  a majority of  traders in Eldoret who have  decried  county askaris brutality  for  a long  time.

The  matter will be coming up in Court on Friday awaiting a pre -bail report.
