Turkana South MP John Ariko and Eight Others Remanded Over Assault on Governor’s Son Amid Shocking Conspiracy Charges
The charge against the accused person states that on April 29, 2024 they attacked the governor’s son, Nimrod Ekamais Lomurukai,16, thereby causing him actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the penal code.
Turkana South MP John Namoit Ariko alongside eight co-accused persons facing two counts at an Eldoret Court will spend the weekend behind bars until Monday pending a ruling on their bond and bail application.
The Presiding Principal Magistrate Cherono Kesse directed that the accused persons to be remanded at Eldoret GK remand prison after the prosecutor Mark Mugun sought orders to detain them on security grounds.
This was after the suspects were charged with among other offences,assault on the son of Turkana Governor Jermiah Lomorukai and
conspiracy to defeat justice.
The accused persons who denied the charges include Peter Lokutuni a former MCA, Davis Loyopo (blogger),Jamostar Silale (blogger),Bonfestars Ekala (a local politician) and Joseph Elikipan a senior pastor in one of the churches in Turkana.
Other are Peter Kodet (law enforcement officer at Turkana county),Sammy Esinyen alias Whensonko (manager Turkana south Constituency)and James Esinyen former MCA denied the charges.
The Turkana South MP who doubles up as the Orange Democratic Movement party’s vice chairman, was apprehended by officers attached to the directorate of criminal investigations unit in Eldoret on Thursday
evening at a hotel before being driven to central police station where he was detained before he was released on free bond.
This was after the incident took ugly scene due to local politics forcing the case to be transferred to Eldoret to ensure safety of the
parties involved in the feud.
The charge against the accused person states that on April 29, 2024 they attacked the governor’s son, Nimrod Ekamais Lomurukai,16, thereby causing him actual bodily harm contrary to section 251 of the penal code.
They were also charged with conspiracy to defeat justice, being in possession of stolen property and forgery of the documents.
Lawyer Vincent Githaiga claimed that his clients were being mistreated by being taken away from their area of jurisdiction where
the incident occurred and charged in Eldoret court.
However, lawyer Richard Warigi together with state counsel Mugun defended the move arguing that the environment in Lodwar court was hostile bearing in mind that some of the accused persons were politicians with fanatic following who had threatened to disrupt court
proceedings.
