Manchester City are preparing an official bid to sign Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan, with a move expected to advance after the conclusion of the Serie A season, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.
Reijnders, 25, has emerged as Pep Guardiola’s primary target for the No. 8 role as City look to reinforce their midfield ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Sources close to the deal indicate that City’s opening proposal is ready and will be submitted once the player wraps up his commitments with Milan, who are currently focused on securing a top-four finish in Serie A.
“Manchester City will send an opening bid to try to sign Tijjani Reijnders this month,” Romano reported via X (formerly Twitter), adding that the club is showing respect for the player’s wish to stay focused on Milan’s final matches.
Reijnders joined AC Milan from AZ Alkmaar in the summer of 2023 for around €20 million. Since then, he has become a key figure in Stefano Pioli’s midfield, making over 40 appearances across all competitions this season.
His performances have not gone unnoticed, attracting interest from top European clubs, with City now leading the race.
Manchester City are expected to undergo a midfield reshuffle, especially with ongoing uncertainties around Kalvin Phillips’ future and the aging core of their squad. Reijnders’ energy, passing range, and positional versatility make him an ideal fit for Guardiola’s system.

City, fresh off another successful Premier League campaign, are expected to invest significantly in the summer transfer window to maintain their domestic and European dominance.
