Lee Kinyanjui, the Cabinet Secretary for Investments, Trade and Industry, has requested stronger healthcare systems to treat Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) which include cancer and diabetes and hypertension.

Kinyanjui spoke at PCEA Neema Church during the funeral of Lydia Munene who was the daughter of Nakuru businessman William Waruhiu. He urged leaders to prioritise funding and human resource allocations to enable early disease diagnosis and improved clinical management. “We need a major shift in handling NCDs so that diagnosis is made early, allowing for effective treatment,” he said.

The CS presented his experience as the Nakuru Governor through his governing period which established a cancer center that provided early cancer diagnosis to Nakuru people and residents of adjacent counties. He stressed the need for health facilities to have proper equipment which enables precise diagnosis and sufficient medication supply whenever it becomes necessary.

Kinyanjui used the occasion to tell political leaders that they should fulfill their current terms while voters need to evaluate their performance. He warned residents about the dangers of starting their campaigns too early because they might select leaders who will not serve their interests. “Some leaders forget their mandates once in office and fail to represent those who elected them,” he noted.

The CS announced that Kenyan farmers reached a major achievement through their ability to export avocados and macadamias to China after the country signed a Sh1.4 billion trade agreement. The agreement marks a significant advancement for Kenyan agricultural producers and industrial businesses which want to access Far East markets. “This agreement allows Kenyan products to access Chinese markets faster and more competitively,” Kinyanjui said while stating that the Ministry would help businesses achieve standards so they could take full advantage of the chance.

The CS praised infrastructure developments which included the Lironi Mau Summit road project as a transformative project for Nakuru County. The project will create new markets and increase tourism while decreasing travel time to Nairobi and Western Kenya. Kinyanjui urged local leaders to work towards positioning Nakuru as a destination of choice which would enable residents to take full advantage of its city status and economic potential.
