Three Arrested as Police Recover 18 Kilograms of Bhang in Nanyuki Anti-Drug Operation

Three suspects have been arrested in the Ichuga area along the Laikipia-Nyeri border after police recovered 18 kilograms of suspected bhang during a joint anti-narcotics operation conducted by officers from the two neighbouring counties.

According to Kieni East OCPD David Maina, officers first intercepted several rolls of cannabis allegedly being sold at a local shop before the suspect led investigators to a nearby house believed to be the centre of the illegal trade.

“Officers recovered rolls of cannabis at a shop before the suspect directed them to a house where the operation was being conducted,” said Maina.

Police stated that the suspects initially resisted arrest and refused to surrender, prompting officers to lob teargas canisters into the house before forcing entry and apprehending them.

During the raid, detectives recovered 692 rolls of suspected cannabis, three kilograms of unprocessed narcotics, one kilogram of cannabis seeds, and six stones of the substance weighing three kilograms each, bringing the total haul to 18 kilograms.

Investigators believe the suspects were involved in both small-scale sales and larger commercial distribution of the narcotics.

Laikipia East OCPD Daniel Kitavi warned that security agencies will intensify operations targeting drug trafficking networks in the region.

“We will continue carrying out operations to ensure all individuals involved in drug trafficking are arrested and prosecuted,” said Kitavi.

Police have secured the recovered drugs as exhibits while detectives continue with investigations into the suspected trafficking syndicate.
