President William Ruto has emphasized his government’s commitment to combat poverty in the country through various development projects and economic reforms.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service for Tourism Secretary General John Olutaa in Kilgoris, Narok County, President Ruto mentioned job creation, increased food production, and better health care for all as some of the important initiatives in dealing with the problem of poverty.
“When a person has no job, food, and cannot access affordable health services, that person is poor,” emphasized President Ruto.
He added that the government has focused on solving the debt crisis that was hindering economic growth, and now has the ability to plan development without worrying about getting into a debt trap.
President Ruto announced plans to allocate sufficient funds in the next financial year’s budget for major development projects, including road construction at a cost of Ksh 120 billion.
In addition, the President emphasized the government’s commitment to ensure access to subsidized fertilizers for all farmers in the country to increase food production and improve food security.
Touching on the issue of national unity, President Ruto warned against ethnic and political divisions, saying that they hinder the change and development of the nation.
“Our goal is to help farmers produce commercial crops and food to improve their lives. We are putting effort into uniting the East African community and making Africa a single market. It would not be good to deal with ethnic divisions,” emphasized the President.
