A group of women from the Talai community in Rift Valley and Nyanza has appealed to former First Lady Mama Ngina Kenyatta to intervene and convince her son, former President Uhuru Kenyatta, to back President William Ruto’s re-election bid in 2027.

The appeal was made during a meeting held in Baringo County, where the Talai Women Caucus issued a statement calling for political calm, national cohesion and support for the current administration’s development agenda.

The caucus, led by its patron Rose Chepkoech and coordinator Jane Amdala, said it was reaching out to Mama Ngina out of respect for the Kenyatta family and concern for the country’s stability ahead of the next General Election.

In their statement, the women called on well-meaning Kenyans and women groups across the country to rally behind President Ruto’s second-term bid, arguing that unity is key to ensuring no region is left behind in development.

“We call on all Kenyans of goodwill, and on women’s groups across the country in particular, to join us in this appeal for calm, unity, and support for President Ruto’s re-election and a development agenda that leaves no community behind,” the caucus said.

The group noted that Kenya is at a sensitive political moment that requires leaders to prioritize cooperation over confrontation to allow government programmes to succeed.

“Kenya today stands at a delicate moment. President William Ruto’s Vision 2060 agenda requires a season of national calm and cooperation to bear fruit,” the women stated.

They said their request to Mama Ngina was driven by the belief that a mother’s counsel still carries unique influence that formal institutions cannot replace.

“A mother’s counsel carries weight no institution can replace,” the caucus said, urging the former First Lady to use her position to encourage national unity and to persuade her son to support President Ruto.

The Talai women specifically asked Mama Ngina to prevail upon retired President Uhuru Kenyatta to step away from active opposition politics and to distance himself from any political formations aimed at undermining the current government.

“We respectfully and humbly ask Mama Ngina Kenyatta to prevail upon her son, the Rt. Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, to step back from active opposition politics and to decline association with efforts to undermine President Ruto’s administration,” they said.

The caucus further declared its full backing for President Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign, saying continuity is important for sustaining programmes targeting women, youth and marginalized communities in both Rift Valley and Nyanza.

“The Talai Women Caucus reaffirms its full support for President William Ruto’s bid for a second term in office,” the statement read.

In addition, the women appealed to the Kenyatta family to uphold the historical ties of mutual respect and goodwill that they said existed between the family of Kenya’s first President, the late Mzee Jomo Kenyatta, and the Talai community.

“We further appeal to the Kenyatta family to continue extending to the Talai community the same respect and goodwill shown by the elder Kenyatta in years past,” they said.

According to the caucus, the Kenyatta family, given its place in Kenya’s history, has a crucial role to play in fostering peace and political stability in the country.

“A united house speaks louder for peace than a divided one, and a mother’s word can still summon that unity,” the women added.

The statement comes amid heightened political realignments across the country as leaders begin positioning themselves ahead of the 2027 General Election.
