Wojciech Szczęsny enjoyed perhaps the easiest night of his career as Barcelona’s defense completely nullified Atlético Madrid in their recent La Liga clash – so much so that the Polish goalkeeper humorously admitted he “had to pretend” to be busy during the match.

The 34-year-old shot-stopper kept a clean sheet without making a single save as Barça dominated Diego Simeone’s side in a commanding 3-0 victory.

“I did NOT make ONE single save against Atlético Madrid,” Szczęsny revealed with a laugh in his post-match interview. “We didn’t concede a single shot… I had to pretend I was doing something!”

The statistics tell the remarkable story – Atlético failed to register a single shot on target at Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys, marking the first time this has happened to Simeone’s team in over a decade of his managerial tenure.

Barcelona’s backline, marshaled by Ronald Araújo and Jules Koundé, gave the visitors no breathing space throughout the 90 minutes.

“I was jumping around, shouting instructions, just to look involved,” Szczęsny joked. “At one point I started doing stretches just so the cameras wouldn’t catch me being bored!”
