Social media managers for Kenya’s female parliamentarians have completed an intensive training program to sharpen their digital communication and advocacy skills.

Organized by the Kenya Women Parliamentary Association (KEWOPA) in collaboration with the Institute of Public Finance (IPF), the workshop aimed to empower participants to enhance the online presence of women lawmakers.

The capacity-building sessions focused on leveraging digital platforms for leadership, advocacy, and societal change.

Facilitators emphasized the critical role of social media managers as “digital architects” who shape public narratives to elevate the visibility of women legislators.

Participants learned strategies to craft compelling content that promotes positive publicity for their leaders while navigating the complexities of online engagement.

A key focus was the power of words and visuals in communication. Attendees were trained in strategic communication tools, including how to create impactful posts and manage public perception effectively.

The program also covered best practices for digital safety, equipping managers to handle the challenges of a rapidly evolving online environment, such as cyber threats and misinformation.

“This training has equipped us to amplify the voices of women MPs and advocate for issues that matter,” said one participant. “We now have the tools to build stronger, safer digital campaigns.”

KEWOPA’s initiative reflects a growing recognition of the digital space as a vital arena for political influence. By investing in the skills of social media managers, the program aims to strengthen the representation of women in Kenyan politics, fostering greater public engagement and support for their legislative agendas.

The training marks a significant step toward bridging the digital divide and ensuring women leaders are effectively represented online.
