Sh182 Million Ultra-Modern Market Set to Revolutionize Trade in Kabarnet

The National Government has started building the Sh182 million ultra-modern market to benefit more than 1,000 traders in Kabarnet town. The National Government has begun construction work after it officially opened the modern market, which will bring Sh182 million in benefits to the town.
The traders at Kabarnet market have faced unsanitary conditions for over 60 years while they paid their required taxes and fees. The planned three-storey complex will create a major improvement for the town’s commercial activities which will help increase economic development throughout Baringo County.
Baringo Central MP Joshua Kandie showed the modern facility design during the site handover ceremony when he revealed that it will include wholesale and retail areas plus a daycare center for traders with young children and an ICT hub that will support digital business operations.
The lawmaker disclosed that the contractor has pledged to complete the project within 12 months. The construction process will start after temporary relocation of traders has been completed according to him.
“I want to tell our traders not to feel scared. Kandie stated that the construction period would require proper relocation of all traders to prevent any interruptions to their business activities.
The county government will support traders who need financial help to advance their business according to Benjamin Cheboi. He stated that current traders will receive first preference for the new market space after it opens.
Governor Cheboi described the initiative as a transformative project because it supports essential development projects that connect to William Ruto’s work in the county. He mentioned that ongoing flagship projects include building a public university, constructing a modern stadium, and upgrading important roads.
County Commissioner Stephen Kutwa encouraged the local youth to pursue job options that will arise during the upcoming construction projects. He confirmed that his office will monitor the project closely to ensure timely delivery and proper financial management.
