The Senate on Monday approved a motion to conduct a plenary hearing for the impeachment case against Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo.
The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, and Wednesday, July 9, 2025.
Senate Speaker Amason Kingi overruled a motion to form an 11-member special committee, opting instead for a full house hearing. Lawmakers will examine the grounds for Guyo’s removal, which include gross misconduct, abuse of office, and violations of various laws and the Constitution.
Guyo was impeached after 16 of 18 Isiolo County Assembly members voted in favor of the motion, which was initiated by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana.
The motion cited stalled development projects, unmet revenue targets, and the appointment of 36 advisors and 31 chief officers—despite Isiolo County receiving the third-lowest national revenue allocation.
He was also accused of issuing two-year contracts to chief officers, which the assembly argued fostered “an environment of fear and uncertainty.” The assembly proceeded with the impeachment despite a court order halting the process.
