Eldoret City has appointed Samuel Kiptoo Kemboi as its Acting City Manager, marking a new chapter in its urban leadership.
Kemboi, who also holds the position of Director of Administration at Uasin Gishu County Government, will now manage the city’s daily operations in this expanded capacity.
During his first meeting with city staff, Kemboi outlined his vision, calling on employees to unite in transforming Eldoret into a world-class city.
“We must elevate the city to reflect its new status. This team needs to ensure we achieve our city’s goals,” he stated, stressing the importance of dedication and teamwork.
Kemboi urged staff to support Governor Jonathan Bii’s development plan, Nguzo Kumi (Ten Pillars), a cornerstone of the governor’s campaign promises. “The Governor pledged under Nguzo Kumi to elevate Eldoret to city status, fulfilling pillar ten. Let’s back his vision to make this city thrive,” he encouraged.
Eldoret earned its city status in March 2024, becoming Kenya’s fifth city after Nairobi, Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nakuru, following Senate approval.
This milestone is anticipated to attract investment, enhance infrastructure, and improve public services in the rapidly growing urban hub, often called Kenya’s “home of champions” for its legacy of producing elite athletes.
A key priority for the new administration is tackling waste management challenges. The Eldoret City Board is tasked with ensuring effective solid waste collection and disposal at designated sites, addressing longstanding issues amid the city’s expansion.
In his role, Kemboi is expected to lead initiatives to improve city services, including waste management, traffic flow, and market infrastructure, while also positioning Eldoret as an attractive destination for investors due to its strategic location along the Northern Corridor.
Stakeholders are optimistic that Kemboi’s administrative expertise, bolstered by his dual roles, will provide the leadership necessary to guide Eldoret through its urban transformation and meet the demands of its new city status.
