President William Ruto has nominated a new team of envoys as part of a fresh reorganisation of Kenya’s foreign service, signaling continued efforts to strengthen the country’s diplomatic presence abroad.

The changes, which have been forwarded to the National Assembly for vetting and approval, are part of routine rotations within the foreign service aimed at filling vacancies and enhancing Kenya’s engagement on the global stage.

Among those nominated is former Kenya Revenue Authority Commissioner General Humphrey Wattanga, who has been picked to serve as High Commissioner to South Africa. The reshuffle also includes appointments to key missions in Europe and the Vatican, reflecting a strategic focus on expanding Kenya’s influence in critical international hubs.

Other nominees include seasoned diplomats and public officials who will serve as ambassadors and deputy envoys in various global capitals. The appointments are expected to inject fresh energy into Kenya’s diplomatic corps while ensuring continuity in foreign policy priorities.
According to a statement from the State House, the nominations are part of a broader plan to reinforce Kenya’s international partnerships and advance its economic and political interests abroad. The government has been actively reviewing its diplomatic deployments to align with emerging global dynamics and national priorities.

Once approved by Parliament, the new envoys will join Kenya’s expanding diplomatic network, which spans dozens of countries and plays a key role in trade promotion, regional cooperation, and international representation.

The latest changes come amid ongoing efforts by the administration to position Kenya as a key player in regional and global affairs through a more robust and responsive foreign service.
