President William Ruto recently revealed the reason behind his involvement in the impeachment of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua during a media engagement at Sagana State Lodge in Nyeri.
Ruto stated that Gachagua had demanded 10 billion Kenyan shillings to assist in strategizing the political plans for the Mt. Kenya region.
The President explained that he held several meetings with Members of Parliament to garner support for Gachagua’s impeachment.
However, despite his efforts, the MPs rejected the proposal, as they were already planning to impeach Gachagua on their own.
Ruto also discussed the removal of Justine Muturi from his position as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Special Programs, attributing his dismissal to incompetence and his failure to attend Cabinet meetings.
“I urged Muturi to be more active in his role, but he claimed he was out of practice. He also failed to attend key Cabinet meetings, despite being a leader,” Ruto explained.
In response to Ruto’s comments, Manyatta Member of Parliament Gitonga Mukunji defended Justine Muturi, rejecting the claims of incompetence.
Mukunji urged the President to withdraw his statement, asking, “You cannot remove Muturi from office simply for incompetence. Please clarify what exactly Muturi did wrong.”
