The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, held a high-level consultative breakfast meeting with staff from the Directorate of Family Health to discuss key health priorities and strategies aligned with the government’s Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
The meeting, convened at the Ministry of Health headquarters, brought together senior health officials from critical departments including the National AIDS and STI Control Programme (NASCOP), Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (RMNCH), Mental Health, Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), and Immunization.
Discussions focused on the evolving healthcare landscape in Kenya, especially the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), a major pillar in the rollout of the UHC program. The officials deliberated on how to enhance the efficiency and performance of key health programs to meet the growing needs of Kenyans.
Among the priority areas highlighted were the need to strengthen human resources for health (HRH), improve vaccine coverage, ensure security of essential health commodities, and accelerate the digitization of healthcare services. Operational strategies to improve service delivery structures and boost program accountability were also reviewed.
Dr. Oluga stressed the importance of collaboration and open dialogue, encouraging staff to maintain a focus on results-oriented solutions that reflect the Ministry’s commitment to quality and accessible healthcare.
“Our collective efforts must remain anchored in achieving measurable outcomes that improve the health of every Kenyan,” said Dr. Oluga. “The Ministry remains committed to promoting, protecting, and restoring health as a constitutional right.”
Director of Family Health, Dr. Isaack Bashir, reaffirmed the Directorate’s support for the Ministry’s agenda, noting that aligning departmental goals with national health priorities is key to achieving lasting impact.
The PS was accompanied by the Director General for Health, Dr. Patrick Amoth, and other senior officials who echoed the importance of interdepartmental synergy in delivering healthcare reforms.
The meeting marks a critical step in fostering integrated approaches to Kenya’s healthcare delivery as the country accelerates toward full implementation of UHC.
