President William Ruto commissioned the newly rebuilt Liter Girls High School in Elgeyo Marakwet County on Thursday, January 9, 2025, marking a significant milestone in the region’s recovery from years of insecurity.
The commissioning event at the school, located in the Tot area, was a symbol of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of education.
The school, once forced to close its doors due to escalating insecurity and the displacement of residents, has now been reconstructed into a state-of-the-art facility.
The newly revamped institution is set to serve as a center of excellence, providing quality education to the young girls of the region.
President Ruto emphasized that the school is not just a place of learning, but a beacon of transformation for the entire community.
“Today, we celebrate not only the completion of this school but the restoration of hope for the children of Elgeyo Marakwet,” President Ruto stated. “This school represents the resilience of our people and their commitment to overcoming adversity. It stands as a testament to what we can achieve when we work together as a nation.”
The government has allocated KSh100 million to support the rebuilding of other schools in the region, which had suffered from insecurity and closures in the past year.
This initiative aims to ensure that all children in the region can return to class, reinforcing the government’s commitment to providing access to education for all, regardless of the challenges they face.
The President’s remarks highlighted that education plays a pivotal role in the nation’s development and is crucial for empowering communities to drive change.
He reiterated that the government is focused on enhancing security, improving infrastructure, and ensuring that education becomes a tool for social and economic transformation.
“We are committed to ensuring that every child, regardless of where they live, has the opportunity to learn and grow,” he said. “In the coming months, we will work tirelessly to ensure that schools across the region remain open, and our children are back in class.”
The commissioning of Liter Girls High School serves as a catalyst for positive change in Elgeyo Marakwet, with President Ruto’s pledge to invest in education and security paving the way for a brighter future for the community.
The government’s continued focus on revitalizing the region’s education sector is expected to have long-lasting benefits, not only for the local communities but also for the nation’s broader development goals.
