The Eldoret Sports Complex buzzed with excitement on Saturday as Platinum Credit Limited sponsored a high-stakes Kenya Basketball Premier League double-header, pitting Platinum Eldonet against Strathmore University.

The event, attended by a spirited crowd, was more than just a game—it was a celebration of youth, talent, and the transformative power of sports, reflecting Platinum Credit’s deep commitment to community development.

Platinum Credit’s representative, Mr. Yakwa, emphasized the company’s dedication to empowering young people through sports.

“Youth empowerment is at the core of our mission. Beyond financial support, we care about sports development in Kenya,” he stated, highlighting the sponsorship as part of their ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts.

The games showcased how sports can inspire and unite, with young athletes delivering performances that kept the crowd on edge.

In the men’s game, Platinum Eldonet edged out Strathmore University 58-56 in a nail-biting contest. Strathmore took an early lead in the first quarter (18-19), but Eldonet roared back in the second with a 15-8 run, gaining a crucial 7-point advantage.

Despite Strathmore narrowing the gap in the third (14-18) and a tense 11-11 stalemate in the fourth, Eldonet’s resilience shone through. Key plays, including two sharp passes from Tyson and a critical defensive stop, sealed the win.

Team manager Benard Barasa praised the squad’s mental toughness, noting, “It was a stiff home game, but our teamwork in the final minutes made the difference.” Captain James Boen, reflecting on the victory after a tough stretch of three losses, called it “special,” while commentator Ian Onyango described the finish as “beautiful, showing the team’s true fighting spirit.”

The women’s match saw Strathmore University dominate Platinum Eldonet, winning 68-49. Strathmore’s explosive 26-9 second quarter created a lead that Eldonet couldn’t overcome, despite competitive efforts in the other quarters (Q1: 12-14, Q3: 15-16, Q4: 9-12).

Captain Sheilla Cherotich remained optimistic despite the loss, stating, “We did all we could, but our shots weren’t landing. We’ll improve our offence, defence, and teamwork to reclaim our pride.” She stressed the need for unity and shared responsibility to boost future performances.

The event was a testament to community spirit, with the crowd cheering passionately from start to finish. Platinum Credit’s support not only elevated the games but also highlighted the role of sports in fostering talent and unity in Eldoret.
