Chelsea delivered a scintillating performance on Thursday night, thrashing Swedish side Djurgårdens IF 4-1 in their European fixture.
With a blend of youthful energy and attacking flair, the Blues dominated from start to finish, with Nicolas Jackson stealing the headlines thanks to his second-half brace.
The London giants got off to a flying start at the Tele2 Arena when Jadon Sancho found the back of the net in the 12th minute, calmly slotting home to give Chelsea an early advantage.
The visitors continued to pile on the pressure, with Noni Madueke doubling their lead just before halftime in the 43rd minute. His well-taken strike gave Chelsea a comfortable 2-0 cushion heading into the break.
Djurgårdens struggled to cope with Chelsea’s pace and precision, but they found a glimmer of hope in the 68th minute when Isak Alemayehu pulled one back for the hosts.
His goal ignited the home crowd and briefly suggested a possible comeback. However, any hopes were swiftly dashed by the relentless Blues.
Nicolas Jackson, who had been a threat throughout the match, showcased his clinical finishing in the second half. He netted Chelsea’s third goal in the 59th minute, capitalizing on a defensive lapse to restore the two-goal cushion. Jackson wasn’t done yet.
Just six minutes later, in the 65th minute, he struck again with a powerful finish, sealing the 4-1 victory and underlining his growing importance in Chelsea’s attack.
The win marks a significant boost for manager Enzo Maresca’s side as they continue their European campaign with confidence.
Jackson’s brace not only secured the win but also silenced his early-season critics, proving he can be the focal point of Chelsea’s forward line.
Meanwhile, Djurgårdens will be left running their defensive lapses and missed chances. Alemayehu’s goal was one of the few bright spots in an otherwise challenging night for the Swedish outfit, who now face an uphill task in the return leg.
With this emphatic win, Chelsea put one foot firmly in the next round, showing signs that their young squad is beginning to gel.
The Blues will now turn their attention back to domestic duties before hosting Djurgårdens at Stamford Bridge, where they’ll look to complete the job in front of their home fans.
