A gloomy atmosphere has covered Ngomongo village in Kirinyaga Central’s Kanyekiine Ward. Residents woke up to the horrific discovery of a woman’s corpse abandoned by the road.
The 39-year-old woman bore evident traces of violence. She also had been raped before she was killed.
She was described by residents as well known in the village. Anne Mwangi, a local resident, stated that the victim had rented a house in the village and was spotted alive yesterday.
“She was among us. I had seen her yesterday. It is sad,” stated Mwangi.
Early yesterday morning, a resident who was on his way to a nearby store stumbled upon the body. He raised the alarm, and minutes later, villagers had convened at the site.
The second villager, Richard Kiarie, confirmed that he found the body to be naked with bruises on the entire body. “We are in pain. It’s frightening. She was tossed like garbage,” he stated.
Detectives from Kerugoya Police Station arrived quickly at the scene. They photographed around and lifted the body as onlookers glared, many in tears.
The police have begun investigations. They assured they would pursue leads and ensure justice prevails.
Locals, however, say that this is not an isolated incident. They blame lack of lighting, the lack of patrols, and idle youth as the causes of the growing insecurity.
