Mwanzo Estate Residents Decry Surge in Insecurity, Demand Action from Authorities
“The situation has remained the same despite informing the authorities,” said Ann Nafuna,
“We can’t sleep at night,” Joyce Njoroge, a resident of Mwanzo Estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town, told Hubzmedia reporters. “Young men armed with machetes have been invading our plots, stealing electronics, especially televisions, and harming anyone who tries to stop them.”

Njoroge is one of many residents who have staged peaceful demonstrations in recent weeks over a surge in insecurity in the area. They say armed robbers have been targeting homes, making off with electronics and even the metal water meters belonging to Eldowas Water Company.
“The situation has remained the same despite informing the authorities,” said Ann Nafuna, another resident. “Many of us fear for our lives.”
Evans Odhiambo, a human rights activist, has called on investigating agencies to take action. “We have requested the DCI to conduct investigations and ensure all suspects behind these robberies are apprehended,” he said. “We suspect the meter thieves could also be working with some Eldowas staff.”
Odhiambo’s concerns highlight the residents’ growing frustration. Their calls for improved security come amid ongoing neglect of basic infrastructure in Mwanzo Estate, including roads. Residents claim their area Member of County Assembly and the county government have overlooked their needs for years.
In response to the demonstrations, Turbo Sub County Police Commander Edward Masiibo has assured residents of increased security patrols at night. However, residents remain wary, demanding a more permanent solution to the crime wave plaguing their community.
